Principal Investigator: Dr Mandy Lombard (Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University)

Title: The application of systematic conservation planning to the high resolution biological, oceanographic and threats data collected over the last seven years by EKZN Wildlife for the waters of the EEZ off Kwazulu-Natal to assess biodiversity status and recommend placement of MPAs.

Project summary: The objectives of the project are to inform the management and conservation of marine living resources in KZN waters (coastline to EEZ), by collecting and collating spatial data on biological and oceanographic diversity patterns and processes, and analysing them in a framework of systematic conservation planning.
