Phillip C. Heemstra is currently involved with the following research projects:

1) Review of the serranidae of the Western Indian Ocean with John E. Randall.
2) World Atlas of Groupers (Color photos of live and fresh groupers (juveniles & adults) of the grouper Subfamily Epinephelinae (Family Serranidae) for all of the 163 + species
3) The East Coast Fish-Watch Project
